“The Architecture of Settler Colonialism in Palestine” map, magazine spread in The Funambulist.
I’ve been putting off sending out a newsletter with much-needed updates because it’s felt impossible to synthesize everything I’m feeling this week, or to touch on what we’re grappling with collectively. The grief I feel at watching the current genocide of the Palestinian people is too great to put into words. I have woken up each morning, read the news, watched stories from Palestinians in Gaza, and felt a scream rise in my chest. I’d like to direct readers to others who are eloquently and powerfully responding to this crisis. At the bottom of this newsletter are some of the things that have been supporting me this week—helping me learn, listen, donate, and to feel less useless. If you are local to New York, my studiomate Nassim Dayoub is co-hosting an emergency teach-in tonight (email me if you’d like to RSVP). The Funambulist has made its issues open access, including Learning With Palestine. For direct requests for solidarity, I recommend The First Week: Dispatch from the Palestinian Youth Movement:
What we can say with certainty is that the Palestinian people are unbowed. No amount of collective punishment by the Zionist entity will bend or break the will of our people to live in dignity. We know why Gaza is being targeted: because it is the heart of our resistance. And that resistance is both a strategic and moral necessity to the ordering violences of the Zionist system from river to sea, which seeks the extermination of the Palestinian people. We therefore maintain what the rest of our Palestinian sisters and brothers maintain: we will continue to fight, and we will win.
It’s Flower World’s three year anniversary this month and we’re celebrating with a small party and flash day this Sunday the 22nd. I’m so grateful to everyone who has visited, worked with us, and gotten tattooed at our very special little studio. Details below and flash to come. We’ll be donating all flash tattoo proceeds to medical aid for Gaza.
I’ve finally gotten around to listing the ceramics I’ve been making over the last couple of months for sale. It’s been a fun, soothing practice to apply familiar images to functional surfaces, and I hope these can find a beloved place in your homes. A portion of sales will be donated to the Palestinian Youth Movement (link below if you’d like to make your own contribution).
